Civil War Tech
There were many new technological advances, especially in the military space, like the Minie bullet, Submarines, Passenger balloons and more!
The Rifle Musket
The Rifle Musket was one of the many new innovations that came with The Civil War. Regular Rifles could only shoot about 1000 yards away while the Rifle Musket could shoot much farther than that. This gun was revolutionary for the time because of the precision and shooting distance it brought.

The Minié Ball
The Minié Ball was a new type of bullet was more aerodynamic and precise than any other bullet had been at the time. It was designed to expand as it traveled along the rifle barrel, causing muzzle velocity to increase.

Submarines
Many new types of Submarines were introduced during this time. for example, the H. L. Hunley. the H. L. Hunley was the first submarine to sink a ship. it sank the USS Housatonic in 1864.

Military Balloons
Military balloons were designed and developed by the Union. Military balloons were used to fly above enemy troops in an attempt to determine their movements and plans. Unfortunately for the North, the South later found out about this and started to make strategies camouflage or just shoot down these balloons.

Railroads
Railroads were used heavily in the Civil War. unfortunately for the Confederacy, there were little to no railroads in the Confederacy. Railroads were used to quickly and easily ship supplies, tools, food, etc.

The Camera
The Civil war was one of the first wars to be documented with a camera. Unfortunately, developing photos for people to see was very difficult and time consuming. Because of this, little photos were taken of the battlefield. Also, early cameras had very long exposure time, meaning that there could be absolutely no motion or else the picture would turn out blurry. This made taking photos of the battlefield in action Very difficult or even impossible.
